The shirt organically triggered a conversation about Satoshi Kon \u2014 <em>Perfect Blue<\/em> is one of her favorite movies. LiSA told me she finds Kon\u2019s movies \u201ccruel and dark,\u201d but thinks he\u2019s excellent at depicting \u201csomething you know [I have] deep inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Satoshi Kon was a visionary Japanese director, screenwriter, and animator known for blending reality and illusion in psychologically complex narratives. His major works \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/22994781\/satoshi-kon-movies-perfect-blue-watch-free\"><em>Perfect Blue<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2016\/5\/17\/11693906\/millennium-actress-watch-online-free-streaming\"><em>Millennium Actress<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2019\/12\/19\/21029789\/satoshi-kon-tokyo-godfathers-anime-gkids-re-release-4k-restoration\"><em>Tokyo Godfathers<\/em><\/a>, and <em>Paprika <\/em>\u2014 each explore identity, memory, and perception through striking visual storytelling and layered characters. Kon frequently blurred the boundaries between dreams and reality, often critiquing media, fame, and the fragility of self. Though his career was cut short \u2014 he died in 2010 from pancreatic cancer, at age 46 \u2014 his influence on global cinema remains profound, with several scenes and themes from his movies recreated in Hollywood films by <a href=\"https:\/\/animationobsessive.substack.com\/p\/the-real-history-of-perfect-blue\">Darren Aronofsky<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/movieweb.com\/was-christopher-nolan-inception-inspired-by-paprika\/\">Christopher Nolan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201c[Kon\u2019s films] resonate so much demon-like feelings, and also the struggle between, like, \u2018I want to be human. You want to be good, but also I could be dark,\u2019 LiSA said. \u201cAnd that kind of struggle, it resonates with me so much.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div>\n<div><iframe title=\"Perfect Blue - Official Trailer - Now Available on Blu-Ray, DVD &amp; Digital!\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a1kZIiLmS0k?rel=0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"accelerometer *; clipboard-write *; encrypted-media *; gyroscope *; picture-in-picture *; web-share *;\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\"><em>Perfect Blue<\/em> is a psychological thriller following former girl-group pop idol Mima Kirigoe, who quits music to become an actress, but faces a terrifying identity crisis as she\u2019s stalked by a fan and haunted by a version of her past self. As the line between her real life, her roles, and her online persona blurs, Mima begins to lose grip on who she truly is. The film explores how media, fame, and obsession distort perception \u2014 not just how others see us, but how we see ourselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">LiSA admits that being a public figure plays a part in why she enjoys <em>Perfect Blue<\/em>. \u201cIt&#8217;s a story about how much she wants to be loved,\u201d she explained. \u201cOr how much she wants to be recognized. Those are true feelings inside that are actualized in the characters. And sometimes I feel I can identify myself in those characters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">We also wound up chatting about what she\u2019s currently watching on TV. Of course, a star who\u2019s successfully crafted so many anime songs enjoys watching anime, but she says she typically reads manga more. He adopts Anya without knowing she&#8217;s telepathic, and marries an assassin (Yor) without realizing she\u2019s a contract killer. As the trio navigates their secret lives, they form a real bond, despite everything they\u2019re hiding from each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">A pop idol spiraling into an identity crisis and a spy faking her role in a perfect home seem like radically different stories, but both revolve around the universal truth that people long to be seen, accepted, and loved.
