Kojima Productions\u2019 Death Stranding<\/em> already has a live-action movie adaptation<\/a> in the works with A24 and director Michael Sarnoski attached<\/a>, but it\u2019s not the only cinematic project in the works. Animation studio Line Mileage and Kojima Productions announced Wednesday that they\u2019re teaming up for an animated adaptation of the 2019 game, which is described as an adult-targeted animated feature \u2014\u00a0a la Predator: Killer of Killers<\/a><\/em> and the upcoming animated John Wick prequel<\/a> \u2014 inspired by Death Stranding<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Writer Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves<\/a><\/em>, Prisoners<\/em>) is attached to write the screenplay for the animated take on Death Stranding<\/em>. Kojima Productions LA<\/a> announced the project, which is said to be an original story \u2014 not a one-to-one adaptation of Sam \u201cPorter\u201d Bridges\u2019 adventure through a desolated America.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love the world of Death Stranding<\/em>, it\u2019s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful,\u201d gushed Guzikowski in a statement alongside the news. \u201cI\u2019m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I\u2019ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Line Mileage chief creative officer Daniel Dominguez likewise geeked out on the forthcoming Death Stranding<\/em> animation, calling the original game \u201cthe most cinematic, thought-provoking video game I have ever played.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying it gave me the same emotional rush, visceral punch, and intellectual pleasure I had the first time I watched Blade Runner<\/em>, or Ghost in the Shell<\/em>,\u201d Dominguez said. \u201cAdapting it into a form it so naturally evokes is an honor. And for Aaron Guzikowski to lend his talents, whose authorial mind and creative energy humble me\u2026 needless to say, this project is a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n

The animated Death Stranding<\/em> feature \u2014 just like A24\u2019s live-action movie \u2014 does not have an announced release window. But with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach<\/a><\/em> coming soon, Kojima fans will have plenty to tide them over while they wait.<\/p>\n
