DC Studios head James Gunn<\/a> has revealed several key things about the future of its cinematic universe, including confirmation that a Wonder Woman movie is currently in development. <\/p>\n

James Gunn clarified to Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em> that Wonder Woman is “a separate thing” from the upcoming HBO series Paradise Island<\/em>, which centers on the Amazons of Themyscira. While he acknowledged the series is “slow moving, but it’s moving,” he also shared an update: “We’re working on Wonder Woman<\/em>. Wonder Woman<\/em> is being written right now.”<\/p>\n

Although we\u2019ve heard news that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow<\/a><\/em>, starring Milly Alcock, will premiere in June 2026, and a Batman film inspired by Grant Morrison’s Batman and Son<\/em><\/a> story is expected, this is the first piece of news for a Wonder Woman film.<\/p>\n

Diana of Themyscira has had a rough go of it in recent memory, following the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3<\/em> led by the previous team of Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins. Speaking in 2022 about the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3<\/em>, Jenkins said<\/a>, “I was open to considering anything asked of me. From my understanding, there was nothing I could do to move things forward at that time. DC is clearly undergoing major changes, so I understand that these decisions are difficult right now.” Warner Bros. Games recently shut down<\/a> three of its studios and canceled all projects in development, including the long-anticipated Wonder Woman<\/em> game. <\/p>\n

James also explained that although an actor has yet to be cast for the role, Batman, Superman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman are important figures for the future of DC Studios. “I wouldn’t say only<\/em> those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we’re dealing with the other two.”<\/p>\n

Needless to say, the upcoming Superman<\/em> film has fans excited<\/a> and ready to see the DC Universe\u2019s brand new take on its favorite cap and cowl characters.<\/p>\n
