But Epic isn\u2019t stopping there; it\u2019s also suing a quintet of resellers of those cheating tools, seeking unspecified damages from the defendants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">In a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the eastern district of North Carolina, where Epic Games is headquartered, the maker of <em>Fortnite<\/em> and Unreal Engine alleges that Ediz Atas (aka Sincey Cheats and Vanta Cheats) has developed, maintained, and sold cheat software for the battle royale game \u201csince at least January 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">That cheat software, Epic\u2019s suit alleges, gives cheaters an unfair competitive advantage over non-cheating players; breaches the <em>Fortnite<\/em> end-user license agreement and circumvents Epic\u2019s anti-cheat systems; and harms Epic by causing non-cheating players to stop playing <em>Fortnite<\/em> and purchase in-game passes, cosmetics, and other items.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">What\u2019s more, the suit alleges that after Epic Games submitted DMCA takedowns to YouTube to remove videos that featured the offending cheating software, \u201cSincey Cheats sent multiple emails to YouTube\u2019s designated copyright agent impersonating an Epic employee and falsely claiming that Epic wanted to \u2018formally reverse [its] claim of copyright infringement\u2019\u201d by spoofing Epic Games email addresses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Epic said in its lawsuit that it has issued \u201ctens of thousands of bans against <em>Fortnite<\/em> accounts\u201d that used Sincey Cheats cheat software since February 2022, \u201cincluding over 15,000 bans against accounts in the United States\u201d alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The lawsuit is also targeting five unnamed defendants who sell Sincey Cheats and Vanta Cheats through various websites, Discord servers, and Telegram channels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Epic did not mention specific monetary amounts it\u2019s seeking in damages from Atas and the five other defendants in its lawsuit. But it\u2019s looking for the usual relief: statutory and compensatory damages for lost profits, attorney\u2019s fees, and other costs associated with the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The Fortnite maker\u2019s lawsuit against a prominent cheat maker follows similar moves from developers like Bungie and Riot Games, who have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2021\/1\/11\/22224696\/riot-bungie-destiny-2-valorant-cheat-maker-lawsuit\">sued the creators and distributors of cheats for games like <em>Destiny 2<\/em> and <em>Valorant<\/em><\/a> \u2014\u00a0in some cases <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/23609206\/destiny-2-bungie-aimjunkies-cheat-maker-lawsuit\">winning multimillion-dollar judgments against them<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/fortnite\/606086\/epic-games-sues-fortnite-cheat-maker\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Epic Games is going after the maker of cheating software for Fortnite that lets players see through walls and auto-aim at opponents in a new lawsuit filed Tuesday.
