The ninth mainline Resident Evil promises \u201cdeeply terrifying aspects of psychological horror with pulse-pounding action,\u201d Capcom says, and \u201cspine-chilling realism like never before, with complex character details like lifelike facial expressions, realistic skin textures, and even high-fidelity sweat droplets that are sure to keep players on the edge of their seats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The game follows Grace Ashcroft (related to Alyssa Ashcroft from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2014\/1\/5\/5277090\/resident-evil-outbreak-brought-back-online-in-japan-by-fans\">Resident Evil Outbreak<\/a>)<\/em> as an FBI agent tasked to look into an incident at a hotel where her mother was previously murdered (although Alyssa is mentioned, there\u2019s no telling if she\u2019s Grace\u2019s mom). In the game\u2019s trailer, Grace\u2019s boss says it\u2019s time for her to confront her past before the scene cuts to her bound upside down in a dark room.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/resident-evil-requiem-is-a-return-to-form-for-the-franchise-in-new-trailer-1.png\" alt=\"A screenshot of Grace, a blond woman with glasses, sitting in front of a messy office cubicle\" title=\"A screenshot of Grace, a blond woman with glasses, sitting in front of a messy office cubicle\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Capcom\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">From there we see corridors familiar to the Raccoon City mansion before getting ominous words from a shadowy figure in a chair insisting Grace is special, a \u201cchosen one.\u201d We also see the remnants of Raccoon City with the bomb mark that took it out and a destroyed Raccoon City police department. Needless to say, although the franchise will continue its long-running story, this title looks to be very much a return to form for RE\u2019s survival horror origins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Survival horror fans have been anticipating news on the next Resident Evil for a while now. The most recent new mainline Resident Evil entry was 2021\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/reviews\/22420808\/resident-evil-village-review-ps5-pc-xbox-series-x-one-ps4\">Resident Evil Village<\/a><\/em>, a direct sequel to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2017\/1\/23\/14287196\/resident-evil-7-review-re7-vii-biohazard-ps4-playstation-4-vr-psvr-pc-windows-xbox-one-capcom\">2017\u2019s <em>Resident Evil 7 biohazard<\/em><\/a>. Shifting further into action, <em>Village <\/em>emphasized combat against relentless waves of undead creatures. Since then, Capcom has released its ambitious remake of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/game\/resident-evil-4-remake\/40943\">Resident Evil 4<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/resident-evil-requiem-is-a-return-to-form-for-the-franchise-in-new-trailer-2.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Similar to the rumor mill reports, <em>Requiem<\/em> looks to be a reimagining of the series with an evolution of concepts first introduced in the original <em>Resident Evil<\/em>, with more focus on horror over action.
