Blumhouse and developer Kinetic Games have joined forces to develop a film adaptation of horror game Phasmophobia<\/a><\/em>. Blumhouse and James Wan\u2019s Atomic Monster production company will produce the upcoming movie in association with Kinetic Games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to officially announce that a Phasmophobia<\/em> film adaption is in development – it\u2019s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting,\u201d said Daniel Knight, director of Kinetic Games and lead developer of Phasmophobia<\/em>. \u201cWe never could\u2019ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach when it launched five years ago, and we\u2019re so thankful to our amazing community for the lasting impact Phasmophobia has had in the gaming space and beyond. Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game, and we can\u2019t wait to share more as the project develops.\u201d<\/p>\n

Phasmophobia<\/em> was released in early access for in 2020. Players assume the roles of paranormal investigators who accept contracts that call for them to determine what type of ghost haunts a particular location. So, it may have been inevitable that a video game that feels like the Ghost Hunters <\/em>TV show would eventually become a film. Kinetic Games recently revealed that the upcoming Chronicle update<\/a>, set to release in June, will overhaul the game\u2019s level system, progressions systems, and rewards. Additionally, updates to the game will rework the Grafton Farmhouse while adding a new map later this year.<\/p>\n

Blumhouse has become something of a juggernaut in the horror movie space. The multimedia studio has been behind nail-biters such as Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s<\/a><\/em>, M3GAN<\/a><\/em>, The Black Phone<\/a><\/em>, Get Out<\/a><\/em>, Paranormal Activity<\/em>, and Insidious<\/em>. Atomic Monster is behind films like The Nun<\/em> and The Conjuring<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In addition to a sequel to Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s<\/em> \u2014 due to hit theaters in December \u2014\u00a0Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are developing a movie based on Dead by Daylight<\/em><\/a> with creator Behaviour Interactive. Atomic Monster is also tackling a TV adaptation<\/a> of survival driving game Pacific Drive<\/a><\/em>. Blumhouse is also dabbling in games<\/a> with smaller, indie-sized budgets.<\/p>\n
