While the studio is working on a horror game (OD) and not-Metal Gear (Physint), the follow-up to Kojima Productions\u2019 debut game is the next to drop.<\/p>\n<p>I loved the original Death Stranding, but the sequel looks even more promising\u2014an already ridiculous game made even sillier with giant ships, guitar-wielding cyborgs, and a ventriloquist dummy version of Turkish director Fatih Akin. Plus, for those who took issue with the original\u2019s walking focus and (relative) lack of action, Death Stranding 2 looks to be way more action-packed.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-what-is-death-stranding-2-s-release-date\"><span>What is Death Stranding 2&#8217;s release date?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Death Stranding 2 will be released on June 26, 2025, for the PlayStation 5, with players who shell out for the deluxe edition getting it earlier on June 24, 2025. Death Stranding 2 costs $70 \/ \u00a370 on PS5, with the Deluxe Edition bumping that up to $80 \/ \u00a380.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s the non-canon release date as far as we&#8217;re concerned here on PC Gamer. So when can <em>we<\/em> play it?<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately as of right now Death Stranding 2 doesn\u2019t have a release date on PC. In fact, it isn\u2019t even confirmed for PC yet.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"when-is-death-stranding-2-coming-to-pc-6\">When is Death Stranding 2 coming to PC?<\/h2>\n<p>Kojima Productions and Sony aren&#8217;t talking about a PC release right now, but that&#8217;s not unusual. If it\u2019s anything like the first game, we won\u2019t be waiting too long for Death Stranding 2 on PC.<\/p>\n<p>Death Stranding released on PS4 on November 8, 2019, with the PC release arriving eight months later on July 14, 2020 (with the Director\u2019s Cut coming six months after the PS5 release). So if there\u2019s a similar exclusivity window this time around, then we can expect Death Stranding 2 to hit PC around February 2026.<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/action\/kojima-productions-acquires-death-stranding-ip-rights-presumably-meaning-the-series-will-only-get-more-unhinged\/\">Kojima Productions now owns the IP<\/a>, so it&#8217;s possible we could be in for an even shorter wait this time around. Or a longer one, depending on the publishing deal it made with Sony\u2014we&#8217;re really just speculating, at this point.<\/p>\n<p>On the bright side, Sony games are generally cheaper when they eventually come to PC, with Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2 (which was also $70 \/ \u00a370 on PS5) selling for $60 \/ \u00a350.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-death-stranding-2-trailers\"><span>Death Stranding 2 trailers<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"youtube-video\" data-nosnippet >\n<div class=\"video-aspect-box\"><iframe data-lazy-priority=\"low\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eT_A2gPhTIw\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Death Stranding 2\u2019s latest major trailer premiered at SXSW earlier this year and was further proof that Hideo Kojima is unmatched as the best trailer guy in the biz. This 10-minute epic shows off random vignettes of characters speaking dialogue that makes zero sense without context. Meanwhile, it shows off gameplay of Sam walking about and getting in scraps against some genuinely breathtaking environments.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is this trailer far more action packed than you\u2019d expect from Death Stranding, but it also focuses heavily on the Solid Snake lookalike Neil, who seems to have a whole lot of stuff going on in his life.<\/p>\n<p>Plus we get a look at even more of the game\u2019s supporting cast including the President, played by none other than Metal Gear Rising\u2019s Senator Armstrong actor Alastair Duncan (best known for the Scottish detective show Taggart\u2026 oh, and Mimir from God of War, I guess.)<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-death-stranding-2-gameplay-and-features\"><span>Death Stranding 2 gameplay and features<\/span><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:3840px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"oonKypRyARqGZaKieEHBhL\" name=\"(4) Death Stranding 2 On The Beach - State of Play Announce Trailer PS5 Games 00-04-44.jpg\" alt=\"deaths stranding 2 on the beach\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/death-stranding-2-all-the-key-details-on-the-next-game-from-hideo-kojima.jpg\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"1\" width=\"3840\" height=\"2160\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"expandable\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Kojima Productions)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As in the first game, Death Stranding 2 will have you walking about a post-apocalyptic world, delivering parcels, and dealing with the freaks and goo monsters you encounter along the way. This time around Sam Porter Bridges will be visiting other parts of the world, with the Australian outback and Mexico becoming part of the big network. While some have dubbed the game a \u2018walking simulator\u2019 (I mean, it literally is, but grow up), Death Stranding 2\u2019s traversal seems to have been given a big boost thanks to these new locales, with the likes of sandstorms and earthquakes occurring in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, combat\u2014which took a back seat in the original game\u2014has been given a far higher priority. Kojima described this as <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/games\/action\/why-is-death-stranding-2-more-combat-heavy-kojima-has-the-most-kojima-explanation-possible-an-obscure-gameplay-theory-he-cooked-up-8-years-ago\/\">an intentional decision<\/a> this time, saying, &#8220;the sequel balances the stick and the rope.\u201d Which boils down to rope equals help, stick equals bonk (he based the saying on Kobo Abe&#8217;s novella Rope, which had an excerpt opening the original game).<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also set to be way more stealth this time, with Kojima claiming <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/hideo-kojima-says-death-stranding-2-has-so-much-tactical-espionage-action-that-even-his-own-staff-worried-it-was-getting-a-little-metal-gear-ish\/\">Death Stranding 2 has so much tactical espionage action that even his own staff &#8216;worried it was getting a little Metal Gear-ish.&#8217;<\/a> As someone who has had to contend with his favourite series of all time being dead for the last 10 years, with only a remake to nourish me, this detail means the world to me.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article-body__section\" id=\"section-death-stranding-2-story-and-characters\"><span>Death Stranding 2 story and characters<\/span><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:3840px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"FQUwzojz72JC4EJ3UWuyP5\" name=\"Death Stranding 2 Trailer 44.jpg\" alt=\"Death Stranding 2\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/death-stranding-2-all-the-key-details-on-the-next-game-from-hideo-kojima-1.jpg\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"1\" width=\"3840\" height=\"2160\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"expandable\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Kojima Productions)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite the six-year wait and massive global pandemic we\u2019ve contended with in the time since, Death Stranding 2 picks up 11 months after the original game ended. Sam is apparently living a peaceful life, as AI has automated the delivery process for the most part, but Fragile returns and gives him the classic \u2018I gotta pull you out of retirement for one last job, kid\u2019\u2014to connect Mexico to the Chiral Network.<\/p>\n<p>The cast is composed of new and returning characters; Sam, Fragile, and Baby Lou all return alongside the original game\u2019s villain Higgs who is now a weird-looking cyborg. Meanwhile, a cast of new faces like a mysterious young woman named Tomorrow, who seems to have some connection to Higgs and the power to control the goop; Tarman, who has the likeness of Mad Max director George Miller and an adorable tar cat; and Dollman\u2014a sentient ventriloquist dummy. There\u2019s also a cyborg samurai, which is totally different from a cyborg ninja, it ISN\u2019T Metal Gear, we swear.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"van-image-figure inline-layout\" data-bordeaux-image-check >\n<div class='image-full-width-wrapper'>\n<div class='image-widthsetter' style=\"max-width:1280px;\">\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"SKv4AmPy7TkTBTmtaehafC\" name=\"Death Stranding 2 Neil\" alt=\"The character Neil in Death Stranding 2, who here is posing like Solid Snake.\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/death-stranding-2-all-the-key-details-on-the-next-game-from-hideo-kojima.png\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Kojima Productions)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Most interesting is the character of Neil, who featured heavily in one of the most recent trailers for the game. Neil\u2014played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli\u2014seems to be taking on a similar role as Mads Mikkelsen\u2019s Cliff from the first game\u2026 oh and the dude looks exactly like Solid Snake. Like, it\u2019s not even subtle. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CDMIVpVnef5\">Kojima even said five years ago<\/a> that the actor would be \u201cthe spitting image of Solid Snake\u201d if he wore a bandana.
