As part of FFXIV: Dawntrail<\/a><\/em>\u2019s Occult Crescent<\/a> field operation, players can take on Phantom Jobs<\/strong>, which are mini-jobs that provide unique skills to help you out during combat. These jobs all level individually using EXP gained from the Occult Crescent, and as of patch 7.25, there are 13 of them.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that under the \u201cUnlocking Phantom Jobs\u201d section in the tutorial booklet, it does say \u201cSoul shards are obtained from treasure chests, certain critical encounters, and more,\u201d though we have yet to find a soul shard in a treasure chest. This isn\u2019t ruling out the possibility, but we can\u2019t confirm which job shards come from chests as of writing this.<\/p>\n

All players will start with the Phantom Freelancer job, but there\u2019s more to unlock. There are a few ways to unlock the various Phantom Jobs in FFXIV<\/em>, which we\u2019ve detailed below.<\/p>\n

\n

Completing Occult Crescent quests<\/h2>\n

This is the first way you\u2019re going to unlock a chunk of the Phantom Jobs. This job serves more or less as a tutorial, so you shouldn\u2019t really have much difficulty in talking to the nearby NPCs and completing it as part of the Occult Crescent story.<\/p>\n

By completing the quest \u201cNew Job, Old Tricks,\u201d you unlock three jobs: Knight<\/strong>, Monk<\/strong>, and Bard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Buying them for silver and gold coins<\/h2>\n

The merchant at the base camp (\u201cExpedition Antiquarian\u201d) will sell you job shards for a hefty sum, under the \u201cbattlecraft items\u201d category of whatever currency you have to use.<\/p>\n
