Well, well, well\u2026 it appears Sega has finally decided to bless us with new Virtua Fighter information. On Friday, the company announced that a new Virtua Fighter Direct presentation is scheduled for Sunday, May 11 (the final day of Evo Japan<\/a>), and will be broadcast on Sega\u2019s official Virtua Fighter YouTube channels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sega said it will \u201creveal new developments in the <\/em>Virtua Fighter <\/em>series\u201d during Sunday\u2019s VF Direct. <\/p>\n

Interestingly, Sega pulled its announcement from social media \u2014 likely because the YouTube channels it was promoting aren\u2019t live yet and the start time for the VF Direct was unclear.<\/p>\n

The event could provide more details about the long-awaited Virtua Fighter 6<\/em><\/a>. <\/em>Or it could be about another Virtua Fighter 5<\/em> port, now running on the latest LG smart fridge because everything is an Xbox now<\/a>. Sega hasn’t shared any more information on the new presentation, so whatever the (prematurely spoiled?) direct has in store for fans is anyone\u2019s guess.<\/p>\n

Polygon has since contacted Sega for clarification regarding the VF Direct 2025 Spring event. A rep for the company provided a statement regarding the deleted post, assuring us that the show will go on. \u201c[We] can confirm that the VF Direct is still happening on Sunday,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cAnd a new post will be live later this evening (Friday, May 9). Stay Tuned!\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll update this post with new information when Sega confirms the VF Direct start time.<\/p>\n

The original Virtua Fighter<\/em> took a very young fighting game community by storm in 1993. Virtua Fighter <\/em>is a pioneer in the FGC for being the first commercially successful 3D fighter on the scene. The success of Sega\u2019s technical fighter set the tone and paved the way for fighting games, specifically for the 3D fighting game genre.<\/p>\n

VF has since become synonymous with revolutionizing a more grounded and skill-based style of play that influenced other fighting games like Tekken and Dead or Alive, and even inspiring other long-forgotten, ill-fated imitators like Fight For Life <\/a><\/em>and Fighter\u2019s Destiny<\/a> <\/em>(which was actually super dank).<\/p>\n
