The PlayStation Studios ranks are growing with the addition of TeamLFG, a development studio born out of Destiny 2<\/a><\/em> and Marathon<\/em><\/a> developer Bungie, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hermen Hulst<\/a> announced Wednesday. teamLFG was built as an incubation project at Bungie, Hulst said, and is \u201cnow fully formed and ready to be introduced to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement on Sony\u2019s PlayStation Blog<\/a>, teamLFG said it is \u201cdriven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging. We want our players to feel excited when they log on to discover their teammates already hanging out online. We want our players to recognize familiar names and to make myths and memes out of each other. We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play<\/em> that changed the whole story of the match.\u201d<\/p>\n

TeamLFG\u2019s first project will be a \u201cteam-based action game that draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games.\u201d The studio said its still-untitled, what-exactly-is-a-frog-type-game-anyway game will be set in a \u201clighthearted, comedic world set in brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.\u201d Platforms and release date were not announced.<\/p>\n

Bungie first teased TeamLFG\u2019s project<\/a> in the summer of 2023, when it ramped up hiring for a project that would require \u201cteam members with diverse backgrounds.\u201d Bungie said at the time that the incubation team was \u201cdesigning for depth, mastery, and Bungie\u2019s signature action feel, as well as a friendly, inclusive community.\u201d<\/p>\n

TeamLFG\u2019s mission statement to make \u201cimmersive multiplayer worlds propelled by action games that players can learn, play, and master for countless hours\u201d sounds in line with Bungie\u2019s goals with Destiny 2<\/em> and the rebooted Marathon<\/em>. But the new studio\u2019s untitled live-service project sounds quite different in tone and target audience.<\/p>\n

Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired Bungie in 2022<\/a> as part of a $3.6 billion deal.\u00a0The studio has remained multiplatform, and was intended to stay independent from SIE. But in the ensuing years, Bungie delayed projects and laid off<\/a> hundreds of employees \u2014\u00a0and in 2024, Bungie announced it was \u201cdeepening our integration with Sony Interactive Entertainment\u201d and moving 155 employees to SIE<\/a>. That also meant spinning out the incubation project and team that would ultimately become TeamLFG.<\/p>\n

Bungie is still plugging away at Destiny 2<\/em> \u2014 the studio announced two new expansions coming to the game<\/a> on Tuesday \u2014 and working on extraction shooter Marathon<\/em> for a September release.<\/p>\n
