Bungie\u2019s recent Marathon<\/a> <\/em>stream where it showed early footage of the first-person extraction shooter sparked skepticism on social media and Reddit, prompting some people to predict it will suffer the same fate as Concord<\/em>, the hero shooter that Sony took offline<\/a> less than a month after its release. In response, a former Concord<\/em> developer made a post on the Marathon<\/em> subreddit<\/a> asking people to give it a chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cConcord<\/em> failed to inspire players, and the messages was heard loud and clear,\u201d the developer wrote using a Reddit account under the name MrSpug. \u201cIt was gut wrenching to see our project fail, and be the laughing stock of many online.\u201d<\/p>\n

The developer, who worked at Firewalk Studios before Sony shuttered it<\/a> a few months after taking the game down, said they sympathize with the Bungie developers who put a lot of effort into making Marathon<\/em> and that they commend them for taking a chance in what is an extremely competitive genre.<\/p>\n

\u201cI worked on Concord, and did my best,\u201d they wrote. \u201cWe came up short, please don’t punish others for our mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Concord<\/em> was a different kind of game than Marathon<\/em>, they\u2019re both still published by Sony. One of the biggest criticisms<\/a> coming out of the Marathon<\/em> stream was Bungie\u2019s decision to not go the free-to-play route. Like Concord<\/em>, Marathon<\/em> will be cheaper than most new games. Bungie specifically said you can expect to pay less than a \u201cfull-priced\u201d title, which might put it somewhere around $40 when it comes out in September. Having a price at all, however, has people wondering if it\u2019ll end up like Concord<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really didn\u2019t want to be \u2018that\u2019 dev, calling attention to myself as if I have a horse in this race,\u201d the former Concord<\/em> developer said in a reply to their post. \u201cBut to call this game a failure before it\u2019s even out, is wild to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

A closed alpha for Marathon<\/em><\/a> <\/em>will go live on April 23.<\/p>\n
