It\u2019s easy to forget that Stephen King doesn\u2019t always write horror stories<\/a>. There\u2019s sci-fi stories like Under the Dome<\/em>, coming-of-age tales like Stand By Me<\/em>, and a few nicer stories that fall somewhere in-between. But with his horror-first approach<\/a>, it\u2019s probably fitting that King\u2019s short story The Life of Chuck<\/em> is getting a movie adaptation by Mike Flanagan, someone who also does most of his work by scaring people<\/a>. In the first trailer for the film, it seems the pairs collaboration this time is a little more life-affirming than terrifying.<\/p>\n

The trailer doesn\u2019t do much to clue us into The Life of Chuck<\/em>\u2019s exact plot. We follow a young kid who seems to have a penchant for dancing, we see him as a teenager (played by Jacob Tremblay), then later as an adult, with Tom Hiddleston taking over. Throughout all these glimpses of Chuck\u2019s life, we hear voiceovers from people like Mark Hamill (playing Albie Krantz) telling him that he\u2019s special and the world is beautiful. It frankly all looks incredibly sweet and heart-warming. As anyone who\u2019s read King\u2019s short story could attest, it mostly stays that way \u2014 even if some tragedy creeps in too.<\/p>\n

This is Flanagan\u2019s third film adaptation of King\u2019s work behind the Gerald\u2019s Game<\/em> and the absolutely fantastic Doctor Sleep<\/em><\/a> \u2014 with a more ambitious Dark Tower adaptation<\/a> supposedly on the way sometime in the future. Along with Tremblay, Hiddleston, and Hamill, the film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Annalise Basso, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, Kate Siegel, Nick Offerman, David Dastmalchian, and more.<\/p>\n

The Life of Chuck <\/em>arrives in theaters in select cities on June 6, and will release nationally on June 12. <\/p>\n
