It\u2019s been quite the season for suspending cards from play in popular trading card games. While Magic: The Gathering<\/a><\/em> continues to grapple with the fallout from last year\u2019s bans in the Commander format<\/a>, Disney Lorcana<\/a><\/em> made its first suspension by tossing beloved toymaker Hiram Flaversham<\/a> (The Great Mouse Detective<\/em>) out of the competitive play circuit. Now it\u2019s Fantasy Flight Games\u2019 turn to wield the ban hammer in Star Wars: Unlimited<\/a><\/em>, which falls this time on none other than Jango Fett. He, along with two other popular cards, are now suspended from play \u2014 the same fate that recently befell his beloved son, Boba.<\/p>\n

Gone, these Mandalorians are, from the game\u2019s Premier format. On Wednesday, in a blog post<\/a>, designers detailed exactly why.<\/p>\n

Jango Fett (Concealing the Conspiracy) is a leader card with an unique ability to exhaust enemy units. Played well alongside other cards from the newly released Jump to Lightspeed<\/a><\/em> expansion set, designers say he can repeatedly exhaust all<\/em> enemy units on the table, thereby leaving opponents critically exposed. That, alongside his hefty seven defense, makes him \u201cvery difficult to defeat in combat\u201d \u2014 which, yeah, that checks out. <\/p>\n

Triple Dark Raid, a tactic used in close concert with Jango as a deck\u2019s leader, is also out.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the absolute dominance that Jango Fett and Triple Dark Raid have demonstrated in such a short amount of time after Jump to Lightspeed<\/em>‘s release, claiming 15 out of 24 of the Top 8 spots in our Sector Qualifiers and representing 5 of the 6 finalists,\u201d designers wrote Wednesday, \u201cwe feel that quick and aggressive action is required to preserve the health of the competitive landscape for future Qualifiers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also added to the ban list, which Fantasy Flight refers to as the suspended list, is DJ (Blatant Thief). This one, however, sounds like more of an oopsie than anything else. DJ can smuggle, a mechanic introduced with the Shadows of the Galaxy <\/em>expansion set<\/a>. But he can also<\/em> just take control of enemy resources and make them his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cDJ’s ability to permanently steal resources with such ease was simply not an intended use of his mechanic,\u201d the design team admitted in the blog post, and while suspension isn\u2019t the best solution, if is effectively the only option they\u2019re willing to take. \u201cWe do not intend to errata cards for balance purposes in any capacity; the card you pull from a booster pack should, if at all possible, do what the card says.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a result, you\u2019ll still be able to play DJ \u2014 and Jango, and Boba, and Triple Dark Raid for that matter \u2014 in casual games. It\u2019s just that they won\u2019t be allowed in proper organized play any longer.<\/p>\n

The next set for Star Wars: Unlimited<\/em>, titled Legends of the Force<\/a><\/em>, is expected in July.<\/p>\n
