These very talented, highly experienced experts are going to enter the employment market, and we are working to support them through this transition.\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/eidos-montreal-lays-off-more-employees-we-dont-have-the-capacity-to-entirely-reallocate-them-to-our-other-ongoing-projects.png\" mos=\"\" align=\"middle\" fullscreen=\"1\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" attribution=\"\" endorsement=\"\" class=\"expandable\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption itemprop=\"caption description\" class=\" inline-layout\"><span class=\"credit\" itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\">(Image credit: Eidos Montreal (Twitter))<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It&#8217;s quite a turnaround from just a couple years ago, when Eidos Montreal was reportedly working as a support studio on the new <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/fable-4\/\">Fable<\/a> as well as a &#8220;recently rescoped&#8221; new property and, finally, a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/a-new-deus-ex-is-reported-to-be-in-very-early-development-at-eidos-montreal\/\">new Deus Ex game<\/a> that was at that point &#8220;very very early&#8221; in development.<\/p>\n<p>But that seeming good news didn&#8217;t last: Eidos Montreal, along with Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix Montreal, had been <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/embracer-group-now-owns-crystal-dynamics-eidos-montreal-and-square-enix-montreal\/\">acquired by Embracer<\/a> in August 2022, but Embracer <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/embracer-reveals-it-laid-off-around-1400-people-in-6-months-last-year-but-dont-be-a-bellyacher-this-is-all-about-maximising-shareholder-value\/\">hit an iceberg<\/a> less than a year later when a $2 billion investment deal, later revealed to be with Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Savvy Games Group, fell through. The studio didn&#8217;t escape the fallout from Embracer&#8217;s drawn out implosion, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/embracer-lays-off-97-people-at-eidos-montreal-reportedly-cancels-new-deus-ex-game\/\">laying off 97 people<\/a> in January 2024 and cancelling the new Deus Ex project.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what makes the Crystal Dynamics layoffs last week especially notable: It too is an Embracer studio, and while Embracer said in March 2024 that its restructuring process was <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/as-restructuring-ends-with-the-sale-of-gearbox-embracers-ceo-has-a-new-plan-simply-making-better-products-and-games\/\">coming to an end<\/a>, 2024 saw the closure of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/embracer-has-closed-alone-in-the-dark-studio-pieces-interactive\/\">Pieces Interactive<\/a> and reported shutdown of <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/embracer-has-reportedly-closed-elex-developer-piranha-bytes-as-former-creative-director-announces-a-new-indie-studio\/\">Piranha Bytes<\/a>, as well as layoffs at <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/embracers-lost-boys-interactive-studio-hit-with-another-round-of-layoffs\/\">Lost Boys Interactive<\/a> and <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/gaming-industry\/more-embracer-group-layoffs-star-trek-online-developer-cryptic-studios-is-cutting-jobs-for-the-second-time-in-a-year\/\">Cryptic Studios<\/a>.
