Ubisoft\u2019s biggest games \u2014 Assassin\u2019s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six \u2014 will be split off into a separate entity with a \u20ac1.16 billion ($1.3 billion) investment from Chinese tech giant Tencent, the company announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The new subsidiary will include every Ubisoft team currently working on those three franchises in Montr\u00e9al, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia, according to the news release<\/a>. There will be a \u201cdedicated leadership team, supervised by a board of directors\u201d overseeing the unit as it focuses on \u201cnurturing the development\u201d of Ubisoft\u2019s most high-profile games.<\/p>\n

Ubisoft says the unit will \u201cdrive further increases in quality of narrative solo experiences, expand multiplayer offerings with increased frequency of content releases, introduce free-to-play touchpoints, and integrate more social features,\u201c for its games.<\/p>\n

Tencent\u2019s investment will give it a 25% stake in the new unit and is expected to go through by the end of the year. <\/p>\n

Ubisoft has faced financial troubles<\/a> over the last few years, and according to today\u2019s news release, the company will use the Tencent investment to pay off some of its debts and support other franchises. According to IGN, an investor<\/a> in the company earlier this month claimed Ubisoft had been holding secret talks with major publishers like Microsoft and Electronic Arts about acquiring its major franchises<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ubisoft\u2019s new unit notably leaves out several other franchises it has, including Just Dance, Rayman, Rabbids, and Watch Dogs. The news release specifically mentions that Ghost Recon and The Division \u2014 the other<\/em> Tom Clancy games \u2014 will be part of its new focus on \u201cnurturing the development of iconic franchises\u201d alongside the creation of the subsidiary.<\/p>\n
