Sunrise on the Reaping<\/a><\/em>, the highly-anticipated Hunger Games prequel book<\/a>, comes out tomorrow. It\u2019ll tell the story of the Second Quarter Quell, the Hunger Games that Katniss\u2019s gruff mentor Haymitch won<\/a>. Considering the success of the previous Hunger Games prequel<\/a>, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes<\/a><\/em>, which was all about the dark origin of despotic President Snow<\/a>, it\u2019s likely that Sunrise on the Reaping <\/em>will be just as popular. There\u2019s already a movie in development, coming out next November.<\/p>\n

Naturally, we\u2019re all wondering if Suzanne Collins will pen another<\/em> Hunger Games book. There\u2019s a whole world to explore and years of history before Katniss\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

But one thing\u2019s for certain: Suzanne Collins\u2019 longtime editor David Leviathan told Variety<\/a> that while he\u2019s not certain what stories Collins will want to explore next, she\u2019s probably not going to do a sequel.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe the ending of Mockingjay<\/em> is the ending of the series,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Collins is very specific about what she writes<\/a> and only revisits the world of the Hunger Games when she has something to say<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuzanne always starts with the philosophical point she wants to explore,\u201d explained Leviathan. \u201cAnd I think Haymitch and the 50th Hunger Games were the perfect grounds on which she could make readers think about the nature of authority and questions of when we obey and when we rebel. One of the genius things about the prequel is that suddenly readers understand that history is made as much by the long game as it is by the immediate battles.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s comforting to know that if Collins returns once more to Panem, it\u2019ll draw from the past and leave Katniss\u2019s story with its satisfying finality. <\/p>\n

Sunrise on the Reaping<\/em> comes out on March 18, with the movie adaptation set to hit theaters on Nov. 20, 2026.<\/p>\n
