Season 3 marks a big change for him, traveling with Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and more eager to accept his role as the Dragon Reborn \u2014 and, with it, the burden of learning channeling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">But as the third episode shows, the truth is \u2014 for as much as she is willing to guide him \u2014 Moiraine could never have the same relationship with channeling that Rand does. While she says she understands the \u201cthirst\u201d he feels, his description pushes deeper; for him it\u2019s not just \u201cdying of thirst\u201d and coming upon a pond where \u201cwater tastes like life itself\u201d \u2014 it\u2019s gorging on a sweet poison that leaves him bitter and constantly threatens to pull him under. The fear they both feel about his metaphor seems palpable. But still she has to encourage him to find a relationship to channeling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">It\u2019s a small scene, but an important one to both Pike and Stradowski.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cI think that was one of the scenes we wrote together with Rafe [Judkins, <em>Wheel of Time <\/em>showrunner], because this season, apart from showing the channeling in a different way, I also wanted the characters to talk about it,\u201d Stradowski tells Polygon. \u201cThere\u2019s so many presumptions about what it might be like, but they haven\u2019t really spoken about it together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/why-wheel-of-times-josha-stradowski-sees-season-3-rand-as-mike-tyson-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Prime Video\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">For inspiration about where Rand was at, Stradowski says he thought of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=941204027331589\">Mike Tyson<\/a>, and how he \u201cdidn\u2019t like the person who he needed to become in order to do whatever he did in the ring.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Which is, unfortunately, exactly what Moiraine is left to council Rand with. \u201cYou might not like the person you need to be, but you need to love both parts of it,\u201d Pike says. \u201cYou need to be able to love the shepherd and the explosive power hub that you\u2019re going to become.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">That\u2019s not to say it\u2019s not without its risks: As Pike says of that final episode of the week, Moiraine feels decidedly on the outside of Rand\u2019s growth, at once fearful of him tipping closer to madness (or, possibly, already there and taking it out on Egwene), but also knowing he needs to train. For Stradowski, the physical act of performing channeling is something he\u2019s looking forward to developing, with Rand\u2019s style being possibly a bit more singular than that of the women around him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cI hope we get to explore more because the channeling is so interesting,\u201d Stradowski says. \u201cIt\u2019s on a cellular level in the books \u2014 there\u2019s a moment where they try to heal men that have gone mad because of channeling. And they look inside their brain and try to get the madness out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cAnd they look inside of Rand\u2019s brain and they just don\u2019t even dare to go there because it\u2019s so messed up. So that\u2019s where we want to go.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\"><em>The first three episodes of <\/em>The Wheel of Time<em> are now streaming on Prime Video.
