Speaking to Bloomberg<\/a>, game industry analysts have predicted that the Nintendo Switch 2<\/a> will enjoy the biggest console launch ever, despite costing at least $399 \u2014 and maybe as much as $499.<\/p>\n

Citing a group of analysts \u201cwho regularly communicate with [Nintendo] and its software and hardware partners,\u201d Bloomberg said expectations within the industry and investment communities were sky-high for the launch of Nintendo\u2019s new console. One analyst, Robin Zhu\u00a0of Sanford C. Bernstein, said he expected the console to launch in June, which is consistent with other reports and with Polygon\u2019s own reckoning, based on the rollout for the first Switch.<\/p>\n

Zhu said he expected Nintendo to have an astonishing 6 to 8 million Switch 2 units ready for the launch of the device. This tallies with earlier reports<\/a> that Nintendo delayed the console\u2019s launch into 2025 to build up stock, and Nintendo\u2019s own comments<\/a> that it planned to do everything it could to head off scalping and reselling at launch.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it\u2019s an unprecedented figure \u2014 and if true, it would almost certainly lead to a record-breaking launch for the machine. Nintendo Switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month, while PlayStation 5 sold 4.5 million units in its first quarter. Analyst Serkan Toto predicted sales will also be driven by a strong software lineup with solid day-one third-party support. \u201cThey will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price,\u201d Toto said.<\/p>\n

On price, the analysts Bloomberg spoke to are unanimous in expecting the Switch 2 to cost at least $399 \u2014 which, again, agrees with Polygon\u2019s own analysis<\/a>. Some think it could go higher, to $449 or even $499, driven by the cost of components and fears over the impact of U.S. tariffs. At $499 it would be the same price as a PlayStation 5 (and $50 more than a digital-only model).<\/p>\n

All eyes will be on Nintendo\u2019s Switch 2 Direct<\/a> livestream on April 2, when it\u2019s expected to announce the console\u2019s launch date, price, and lineup of games.<\/p>\n
