\u201cBeware the Gypceros<\/strong>\u201d is one of the first High Rank<\/a> side quests you\u2019ll encounter once you\u2019ve rolled credits in Monster Hunter Wilds<\/a><\/em>. Not only does it task you with fighting a new monster<\/a> that wasn\u2019t present in the lower ranks, but it asks you to interact with the game\u2019s weather system.<\/p>\n

In this Monster Hunter Wilds<\/em> guide, we\u2019ll walk you through how to start the \u201cBeware the Gypceros\u201d quest and how to find the Gypceros during Fallow.<\/p>\n

How to start \u2018Beware the Gypceros\u2019 in Monster Hunter Wilds<\/h2>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve finished the main quest and entered High Rank, complete the first main story mission<\/a>, \u201cNew Ecosystems.\u201d This quest will set you on the path of High Rank, and also give Zatoh <\/strong>a quest for you. Travel to the Kunafa Windsong Village<\/strong> in the Windward Plains, where Zatoh resides, and talk to him (he\u2019ll be marked on your map). <\/p>\n

Zatoh will tell you that there\u2019s an \u201cunfamiliar\u201d monster wandering around the Windward Plains that blinded some of the village workers with a bright flash. The villagers aren\u2019t sure what kind of monster this could be, but the veteran Hunters out there know exactly what Zatoh is describing: Gypceros.<\/p>\n

The problem is that Gypceros only seems to come out during Fallow<\/strong>, which is the weather condition that causes resources to be more scarce. To hunt this Gypceros and save the village, you\u2019ll need to wait until Fallow season in the Windward Plains\u2026<\/p>\n

\n

How to find Gypceros in the Windward Plains<\/h2>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

You have a few options when it comes to finding Gypceros during Fallow season.<\/p>\n

First, you can check the Windward Plains map<\/strong> between hunts<\/strong>. Eventually, you\u2019ll check at the perfect time and find a Gypceros walking around. All you need to do then is hunt it to finish the quest. This adds in an element of luck, but removes any need to care about the game\u2019s weather system, so it\u2019s a bit more straightforward \u2014 especially when there are so many other High Rank side quests to do while you wait.<\/p>\n

Second, you can just change the weather \u2014 more on that below \u2014 in Windward Plains to be Fallow, which should spawn a Gypceros for you to hunt.<\/p>\n

\n

How to change the weather to Fallow<\/h2>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

To change the weather to Fallow, head to one of your pop-up tents<\/a> in the Windward Plains and open the menu that allows you to grill and eat a meal inside your tent. Instead of eating, scroll down the menu to rest<\/strong>. Select the rest option to pull up a menu that will let you change the environment condition and give you a time of day. Select whatever time of day you prefer, but make sure your selected environment says Fallow. You\u2019ll then need to pay 300 Guild Points<\/strong> to rest, but you should have plenty at this point \u2014 plus you\u2019ll earn 100 back when you complete this quest. <\/p>\n

When you wake up, it should be Fallow out, and you\u2019ll be able to find and hunt your Gypceros. Once you reach the Gypceros in Windward Plain, just start attacking it in the wild and you\u2019ll automatically begin a hunt for it.<\/p>\n

The Gypceros is a High Rank monster, so you should show it some respect. However, it\u2019s less lethal and aggressive than many of the other monsters you\u2019ve fought up to this point. If you\u2019d like to go in with counters, try using fire <\/strong>and slicing weapons<\/strong>. Make sure you have antidotes <\/strong>or other items that can heal poison as well.<\/p>\n

\n

Zatoh location in Monster Hunter Wilds<\/h2>\n

\"Kunafa<\/p>\n

When you finish hunting Gypceros in the Windward Plains \u2014 if you kill one on another map it doesn\u2019t count for this quest \u2014 return to Zatoh<\/strong> in Kunafa Windsong Village. <\/p>\n

Some players have complained that Zatoh isn\u2019t in Kunafa Windsong Village when they attempt to turn the quest in. The villagers seem to occasionally disappear from the village. (It\u2019s unclear exactly what\u2019s happening here, but it could be related to weather or the time of day.) If there are no villagers when you arrive, go rest again and set another time, or restart your game<\/strong> entirely. This should cause all the villagers to return.<\/p>\n

If you can see that Zatoh is in the village but you can\u2019t reach him because he\u2019s in a building, just stand nearby and wait for a few minutes. He will (very slowly) make his way out of the building eventually.<\/p>\n

When you complete \u201cBeware the Gypceros,\u201d you\u2019ll earn 100 Guild Points, hunter rank and Palico experience, some Sharp Kunafa Cheese, three Carbalite Ore, and the ability to request material collections from Murtabak.<\/p>\n
