This week, Venom: The Last Dance<\/a><\/em>, the latest symbiotic antihero film starring Tom Hardy, slithers its way onto Netflix. That\u2019s not all that\u2019s new to streaming this week, as The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim<\/a><\/em> makes its way onto Max, and the Oscar-nominated drama Nickel Boys<\/a><\/em> arrives on MGM Plus just in time for this weekend\u2019s awards ceremony. There\u2019s tons of other exciting new releases on VOD as well, including Steven Soderbergh\u2019s supernatural drama Presence<\/a><\/em>, the action comedy Love Hurts<\/a><\/em> starring Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once<\/em>), and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown<\/em> starring Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet.<\/p>\n

The original Venom<\/em> found success in the mess of Hardy\u2019s gutsy performance straining against stakes as mundane as Eddie interacting with his ex and her aggressively normal new boyfriend, after they watched him feverishly climb into a restaurant\u2019s lobster tank. Last Dance<\/em>, however, removes every human consideration from the equation of Eddie\u2019s life \u2014 every social tie, every personal goal, every stake smaller than \u201caliens and the government are trying to kill us.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Director Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus<\/em><\/a>) takes on the task of making an animated Middle-earth that feels like part of the same tapestry as Jackson\u2019s Lord of the Rings movies. This attention to detail and reproduction is the movie\u2019s greatest strength \u2014 The War of the Rohirrim <\/em>looks and feels like Jackson\u2019s LotR in the best way. It\u2019s packed full of sword-swinging adventure, kingly drama and riveting monster mayhem.
