The next season of MultiVersus<\/a><\/em> will be the crossover fighting game\u2019s last. Warner Bros. Games announced<\/a> Friday that development on MultiVersus<\/em> is ending, and that the game will go offline on May 30, the day that the upcoming season 5 comes to a close.<\/p>\n

MultiVersus<\/em> will remain playable offline, the publisher said, both locally and against AI opponents. The game will no longer be available to download as of May 30 at 9 a.m. PDT. Warner Bros. Games has already ended real-money transactions for the game, meaning players can no longer purchase the premium currency Gleamium.<\/p>\n

Season 5 of MultiVersus<\/em> will bring two new playable characters to the roster: DC\u2019s Aquaman<\/a> and Looney Tunes<\/a>\u2019 Lola Bunny. WB Games said that all season 5 content, including the two new characters, are earnable through gameplay. The fifth and final season of MultiVersus<\/em> will kick off on Feb. 4.<\/p>\n

Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus<\/em> community throughout this journey.\u200b\u201d<\/p>\n

MultiVersus<\/em>\u00a0was originally released in July 2022<\/a>, in what Warner Bros. and Player First referred to as an open beta. About a year later, the publisher and developer took MultiVersus<\/em> offline<\/a> to retool the game\u2019s netcode, matchmaking, and progression system, while also developing new characters, maps, and modes to boost the cadence of new content. MultiVersus<\/em> was relaunched<\/a> in May 2024 with a long list of changes and new characters. But some of those changes didn\u2019t land with players<\/a>, and after two initially strong launches, interest in the game appears to have cratered, according to data from Steam Charts<\/a> and Twitch viewership<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When season 5 comes to a close, MultiVersus<\/em> will feature 35 playable characters from a wide variety of film, television, and comic book franchises. The Smash Bros.-inspired fighting game\u2019s roster includes characters like Batman, Superman, Rick and Morty, Scooby Doo\u2019s Shaggy and Velma, and Tom and Jerry. Since returning in 2024, MultiVersus<\/em>\u2019 developers have added Friday the 13th\u2019s Jason Voorhees, The Matrix\u2019s Agent Smith, the Powerpuff Girls, Beetlejuice, and more.<\/p>\n

MultiVersus<\/em> is free to play and will be available to download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.<\/p>\n
