Disney\u2019s totally-not-a-princess<\/a> protagonist Moana (Auli\u2019i Cravalho) (who is also canonically a princess<\/a>) returns in Moana 2<\/a><\/em>, now available for digital rental or purchase<\/a>. She\u2019s joined by demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), Heihei the chicken (Alan Tudyk), Pua the pig, and <\/em>the ferocious, tiny coconut warriors known as the Kakamora<\/a>. In Moana<\/em>, the Kakamora are just one of the threats<\/a> Maui and Moana encounter on their journey together; Moana 2<\/em> sees them taking on a new and more prominent role.<\/p>\n

A deleted scene from Moana 2<\/em>, featured as part of the movie\u2019s home release, changes the nature of the encounter between Moana\u2019s new crew and the pirate coconuts. In this scene, instead of the whole crew getting hit by Kakamora darts, only Moana takes the hit. The rest of them \u2014 Maui fanboy Moni (Hual\u0101lai Chung), quirky inventor Loto (Rose Matafeo), and elderly farmer Kele (David Fane) \u2014 are captured and squeezed together in rope netting suspended above the ship. (Pua gets his own cage.) Moana insists she can still help her crew, but given that she\u2019s completely limp, her face pressed against the deck and her words slurred, that isn\u2019t looking super-likely.<\/p>\n

The scene is funny, but co-director Jason Hand says ultimately, the filmmakers wanted to spend less time on the Kakamora barge, and streamline the action a little. In the final film, Moana\u2019s whole crew gets darted and paralyzed \u2014 and Pua gets a dart right in the butt.<\/p>\n

Moana 2 <\/em>hit theaters in November 2024. Originally, it was supposed to be a Disney Plus series, but much like Disney\u2019s sequel Atlantis: Milo\u2019s Return<\/a><\/em>, it was expanded and repackaged into a full-length movie (albeit with much more polish). Moana takes to the seas again in Moana 2<\/em>, this time with a whole crew, a bigger, badder villain<\/a>, and a post-credits hint about an even bigger conflict to come<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Moana\u00a02\u00a0is now available for purchase or rental at Amazon Video<\/a>, Apple TV<\/a>, Fandango at Home<\/a>, and other digital platforms, and will be available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 18.<\/em> The Disney Plus release date has not yet been announced.<\/em><\/p>\n
