And he dresses like a robot in a cape,\u201d he told Polygon via video chat. \u201cEverything is \u2018peak.\u2019 [<em>laughs<\/em>] And, most impressively of all, he can speak in the third person and have it read as cool, and not ridiculous.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Polygon got a chance to talk with North in the lead-up to his first stint as lead writer of a big Marvel crossover event, <em>One World Under Doom<\/em> \u2014 a nine-issue story in which Doctor Doom has already taken over the world on the first page, and it\u2019s up to the Avengers and the Fantastic Four to figure out how he did it, and how to undo it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">North has penned Marvel\u2019s <em>Fantastic Four<\/em> since 2022, so he\u2019d already spent a lot of his time thinking about Doctor Doom. With <em>One World Under Doom<\/em> #1 hitting shelves next month, that percentage has only increased. So, naturally, we asked if he had any advice for the folks behind Doctor Doom\u2019s upcoming entrance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe \u2014 writers, directors, and actor Robert Downey, Jr. \u2014 on how to nail the quintessential Marvel Comics nemesis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cI&#8217;m not an actor,\u201d North answered, \u201cbut it seems to me that Doom is probably the hardest character to play in all of the Marvel universe. Because he does have this depth, but also this breadth to him. He can send you back in time for Blackbeard&#8217;s gold\u201d \u2014 the very outlandish scheme in which Doom entrapped the Fantastic Four in his first appearance \u2014 \u201cand he can also trade someone&#8217;s soul in Hell and do horrible, horrible things.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/doctor-doom-is-the-hardest-character-to-play-in-the-mcu-says-marvels-own-doom-guy-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cThat&#8217;s a <em>huge<\/em> range for a character,\u201d North continued, \u201cespecially for an actor in an hour- or two-hour movie to hit [&#8230;] I mean, I&#8217;ve spent the past couple of years thinking about Doom, writing speeches <em>for<\/em> Doom, capturing that voice. And I had the advantage that my output was 20 pages a month, and that gives me time to go for long walks and try to nail down what Doom says on this one page in a few words. I can&#8217;t imagine the challenge of trying to do that full time for the year, or whatever it takes, to make a movie.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">But if he had to sum it all up? \u201cI guess it boils down, don&#8217;t forget his depth,\u201d North concluded. \u201cHe can do anything.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\"><em>One World Under Doom<\/em> #1 hits shelves on Feb. 12, kicking off the crossover event. The main series, written by North and drawn by R.B. Silva (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/2019\/9\/11\/20860805\/powers-of-x-4-marvel-x-men-house-mister-sinister\"><em>Powers of X<\/em><\/a>), will ripple out into both existing series like <em>Storm<\/em> and <em>Fantastic Four<\/em>, and tie-in books like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marvel.com\/comics\/issue\/121352\/thunderbolts_doomstrike_2025_1\"><em>Thunderbolts: Doomstrike<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marvel.com\/comics\/issue\/115549\/red_hulk_2025_1\"><em>Red Hulk<\/em><\/a>.
