Los Angeles-based League of Legends<\/em> maker Riot Games has closed its offices to all but \u201ccritical functions\u201d through at least the end of the week due to ongoing wildfires spread across the city and surrounding areas<\/a>. Riot Games\u2019 Santa Monica office is several blocks outside current evacuation warning zones for the Pacific Palisades fire, the largest of the five major fires in Los Angeles Country. That fire had spread to 17,000 acres as of Thursday morning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Well over 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate as days of unpredictable, heavy winds pushed fire across the city. At least five people have died due to the fires<\/a>, and more than 2,000 structures \u2014 including homes, businesses, and schools \u2014 have been damaged or destroyed. Though Riot Games is set up to support remote work, the company is encouraging its employees to put safety and family first.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor Rioters reading this, please remember, the mission and the work will always be there,\u201d CEO Dylan Jadeja wrote on LinkedIn<\/a> Thursday. \u201cRight now, what matters most is taking care of yourselves and each other. It takes a village to do what we do and we are all in this moment together. For those in our offices around the world who have been reaching out, your support has been incredible \u2014 we\u2019re reminded once again how strong a team Riot truly is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jadeja also wrote that Riot Games will be \u201cready to stand up for Los Angeles and give back in every way we can to all of these communities\u201d when the immediate danger surpasses. \u201cAfter all, while our reach is global, the heart of Riot Games has always been in Los Angeles,\u201d he wrote. \u201cLos Angeles raised us and we are proud to call this great city our home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Firefighters continue to fight the devastating wildfires as the largest among them remain at 0% containment Thursday<\/a>. Online, California residents and others are sharing resources to help their communities<\/a>; Planet Fitness gyms in Los Angeles Country are open to non-members and others are handing out quality masks to protect residents from dangerous wildfire smoke. There are tons of regional and grassroots organizations accepting donations, including the LAFD Wildfire Emergency Fund<\/a>, Mutual Aid LA<\/a>, Our Big Kitchen<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n
