{"id":1090888,"date":"2026-01-25T00:29:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T00:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/?p=505686"},"modified":"2026-01-25T00:29:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T00:29:18","slug":"ram-v-resurrects-one-of-dcs-hardest-to-kill-characters-this-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arcader.org\/news\/ram-v-resurrects-one-of-dcs-hardest-to-kill-characters-this-april\/","title":{"rendered":"Ram V resurrects one of DC\u2019s hardest-to-kill characters this April"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ram-v-resurrects-one-of-dcs-hardest-to-kill-characters-this-april.jpg\" \/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">One of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/dc\">DC Comics<\/a>\u2019 cult hits returns this spring, with <em>Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma<\/em>, a six-issue prestige format miniseries written by <em>Detective Comics<\/em>\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/24138337\/dawnrunner-interview-ram-v-evan-cagle-dark-horse-comics\">Ram V<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">For the series, V reunites with his <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/comics\/comics\/the-25-best-comic-books-of-2018\">Grafity\u2019s Wall<\/a><\/em> collaborator, artist Anand RK (of <em>Batman: Urban Legends<\/em>\u2019 \u201cWight Witch\u201d story and <a href=\"https:\/\/anandrk.art\/comicbook-covers\">many, many cool as heck covers<\/a>) \u2014 and Resurrection Man is exactly the kind of metaphysical, fantasy-adjacent science fiction that\u2019s right up V\u2019s alley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Created in 1997 by writing duo Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, and artist Jackson \u201cButch\u201d Guice, Mitch Shelley is an amnesiac man who finds he cannot stay dead: Every time he comes back from death, he loses whatever superpower he had in his \u201cpast\u201d life, and gains a new one. Despite the moniker \u201cResurrection Man,\u201d Mitch was never really a superhero. He was more of a guy who wandered around trying to figure out his enigmatic past, while helping the needy he encountered and dodging the dangerous, immortal forces that had an interest in him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Abnett, Lanning, and Guice\u2019s original <em>Resurrection Man<\/em> ran for 27 issues, then returned for <a href=\"https:\/\/dc.fandom.com\/wiki\/Resurrection_Man_Vol_2\">a shorter-lived New 52 series in 2011<\/a>. In this new series, \u201cAfter living and dying his latest life, Shelley awakes with a new purpose to go along with his latest power: saving the universe,\u201d according to DC\u2019s news release. \u201cThis version of Resurrection Man must battle across time and space against a sadistic Word War II internment camp captain who has inherited a twisted version of Shelley\u2019s abilities. As the lines of cosmic order begin to blur, Mitch Shelley will literally die to save the universe, more than once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ram-v-resurrects-one-of-dcs-hardest-to-kill-characters-this-april-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">&#8220;This is a story I\u2019ve wanted to tell since I first started writing for DC,\u201d V said in the news release. \u201cIt&#8217;s lingered and stayed and got its hooks into my mind, and my love and excitement for the character and story has only grown. Part of the joy of writing comics, for me, is getting to reinvent, reimagine characters in a way that speaks to my own preoccupations and joys; with <em>Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma<\/em>, I hope readers will share in my excitement as Anand, [colorist Mike Spicer] and [letterer Aditya Bidikar] and I tell a story\u00a0of endless lifetimes, saving universes and falling in love, spanning the length of all existence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Butch also returns to draw one interior \u201csynopsis\u201d page in each issue (seen at right below), recapping the history of Mitch Shelley. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ram-v-resurrects-one-of-dcs-hardest-to-kill-characters-this-april-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ram-v-resurrects-one-of-dcs-hardest-to-kill-characters-this-april-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The first issue of <em>Resurrection<\/em> <em>Man: Quantum Karma <\/em>will hit shelves on April 2, and will be available for preorder starting Jan. 17.
