Elon Musk, the richest person in the world and the new BFF of President-elect Trump, plans to wade into the video game industry by opening a studio.<\/p>\n

Musk detailed his vaguely defined plans<\/a> on X (formerly Twitter), the social media site he bought in October 2022, which has been losing users \u2014 particularly following the US presidential election. \u201cToo many game studios [\u2026] are owned by massive corporations,\u201d Musk opined the morning of Nov. 27 before going on to announce his own massive corporation, xAI, is starting an AI game studio to \u201cmake games great again.\u201d<\/p>\n

xAI bills itself<\/a> as \u201cworking on building artificial intelligence to accelerate human scientific discovery, [\u2026] guided by our mission to advance our collective understanding of the universe.\u201d The company is perhaps best known for Grok, the ChatGPT-style bot available to X Premium subscribers. Musk founded xAI in March 2023.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what Musk knows about how video games are developed or how a studio is run. Though that hasn\u2019t prevented him from sharing his opinions on the field in the past, like when crafted the worst Elden Ring<\/em> build of all time<\/a> and celebrated grinding his way to what some believe is a dubious top ranking in Diablo 4<\/em><\/a>. Maybe he\u2019s still stinging from being heckled at a major Valorant<\/em> tournament<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In any case, it appears those of us with a stake in this medium who already abandoned X<\/a> for greener pastures will still need to keep an eye on Musk as he continues to cozy up to United States President-elect Donald Trump who has a long history of favoring the business of his allies \u2014 and turning their enemies into his own. <\/p>\n
