Menery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/23864384\/magic-community-mourns-sheldon-menery-creator-of-the-beloved-commander-format\">passed last year due to cancer<\/a>. According to an ACS spokesperson, those funds will be \u201ca transformational support in advancing ACS\u2019s mission, in elevating cancer prevention, early detection, and ensuring that every individual \u2014 no matter where they live or their ability to pay \u2014 has access to vital cancer screenings and care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">In collaboration with the ACS, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/mtg-magic-the-gathering\/24218600\/dungeons-and-dragons-astarion-secret-lair-where-to-buy\">the Secret Lair<\/a> \u2014 Hasbro\u2019s <em>MTG<\/em> brand which produces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/24212178\/magic-the-gathering-dungeons-and-dragons-secret-lair-where-to-buy\">limited edition<em> <\/em>prints called \u201cdrops\u201d<\/a> \u2014 created Sheldon\u2019s Spellbook, a seven card drop to honor Menery and his contributions to the form. The drop\u2019s product page states that Menery helped develop the drop prior to his passing, selecting which cards would be included and assisting on the art descriptions for each. The drop contained cards Menery himself designed like <a href=\"https:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Pages\/Card\/Details.aspx?multiverseid=676094\">Inkshield<\/a>, his signature card <a href=\"https:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Pages\/Card\/Details.aspx?multiverseid=236477\">Ruhan<\/a>, and other format staples like <a href=\"https:\/\/gatherer.wizards.com\/Pages\/Card\/Details.aspx?multiverseid=571365\">Teferi\u2019s Protection<\/a>, according to Secret Lair.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/arcader.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/magic-the-gathering-fans-raise-2-1-million-for-cancer-research-to-honor-late-commander-creator-1.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" data-has-syndication-rights=\"1\" data-caption=\"\" data-portal-copyright=\"Image: Wizards of the Coast\/Hasbro\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">&#8220;This collaboration not only reflects the spirit of someone who had a profound impact, but also gives back in a way that can change lives,&#8221; said Dave Lew, Chief Marketing Officer of the American Cancer Society. &#8220;We are immensely grateful to Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, and the entire <em>Magic: The Gathering<\/em> community for their dedication and generosity.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">This announcement comes amidst a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polygon.com\/mtg-magic-the-gathering\/468627\/mtg-new-commander-format-panel-rules-committee\">particularly turbulent time for the Commander format<\/a>, as the fan-driven play style shifted hands from a community-driven organization to the custodianship of Wizards of the Coast, <em>Magic\u2019s<\/em> corporate owner. While fans have concerns over the future of the format, this fundraiser came before Commander switched hands, and gives a nod to one of the creators who made <em>Magic<\/em> what it is today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cWizards of the Coast and Hasbro were honored to build on our partnership with ACS and we\u2019re heartened by the outstanding response to the Drop. It\u2019s reflective of our generous Magic community, and a testament to Sheldon\u2019s legendary impact on the game,\u201d said Ken Troop, <em>Magic: The Gathering\u2019<\/em>s Senior Vice President and Global Play Lead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The Sheldon\u2019s Spellbook drop was available from February to March of 2024, with the ACS receiving 50% of the product price.
