\u201cBlack Panther will return,\u201d Marvel promised<\/a> at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever<\/a><\/em>. When the superhero does eventually return to the big screen, they\u2019ll be joined onscreen by Denzel Washington, according to the actor himself.<\/p>\n

While Marvel Studios hasn\u2019t officially announced a Black Panther 3<\/em> for its upcoming slate<\/a>, Washington says that one is in the works, and that writer-director Ryan Coogler is writing a role for him. Speaking on Australia\u2019s Today show<\/a> during press rounds for Gladiator II<\/em>, Washington outlined his upcoming list of projects, saying that he\u2019s slated to appear in a third Black Panther movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point in my career, I\u2019m only interested in working with the best,\u201d Washington said. \u201cI don\u2019t know how many more films I\u2019m gonna make, probably not that many. I want to do things I haven\u2019t done.<\/p>\n

\u201cI played Othello at 22. I\u2019m about to play Othello at 70. After that, I\u2019m playing Hannibal. After that, I\u2019ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next\u00a0Black Panther. After that I\u2019m gonna do the film Othello<\/em>. After that I\u2019m gonna do King Lear. After that I\u2019m gonna retire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington\u2019s second turn as Othello is happening on Broadway in 2025<\/a>, where he\u2019ll co-headline with Jake Gyllenhaal. Washington will then play Hannibal, the Carthaginian general, in a movie directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day<\/em>, The Equalizer<\/em>) and written by John Logan (Gladiator<\/em>) for Netflix<\/a>. It\u2019s not clear what McQueen\u2019s next project is \u2014\u00a0his World War II movie Blitz<\/em> just<\/em> came out \u2014\u00a0so it\u2019s also unclear when Washington would have time in his schedule to film Black Panther 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s current slate has announced films scheduled through 2026: That\u2019s when Avengers: Doomsday<\/a><\/em> and the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man movie<\/a> are pegged to hit theaters. Marvel Studios also has two untitled films on the books for 2027.<\/p>\n

Coogler\u2019s first Black Panther<\/a><\/em> movie for Marvel premiered in 2018. It was a critical and financial success, garnering seven Oscar nominations (winning three) and grossing $1.35 billion globally. Coogler returned for 2022\u2019s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever<\/em>, which saw actor Letitia Wright take over for the late Chadwick Boseman<\/a> as the titular hero. Wright recently teased that she too may return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a>, but it was unclear in which project(s). <\/p>\n

But Wakanda Forever<\/em> also introduced audiences to another potential successor to the Black Panther mantle: T’Challa and Nakia\u2019s son Toussaint<\/a>, whose Wakandan name is T’Challa.<\/p>\n
