Let\u2019s get this out of the way: There are spoilers about the ending of Dragon Age: The Veilguard<\/em> and the fates of the members of the Veilguard below. We\u2019ll be cagey about it when we can, but there\u2019s kind of no way around it.<\/p>\n

How to prepare for the endgame in Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd<\/h2>\n

Everything you\u2019re doing over the course of the game is secretly preparing your allies \u2014 both your party itself and the various factions around the world of Thedas \u2014 for the final battle.<\/p>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

Completing each of your companion\u2019s questlines<\/a> will earn them Hero of the Veilguard<\/strong> status, grant them a new skill, and get them some fancy armor. A lot of these will be conversations and then the occasional fight.<\/p>\n

The important thing is that, once you finish each companion\u2019s story, they\u2019ll be better prepared to survive the coming battle(s).<\/p>\n

Similarly, your relationship with each faction<\/a> \u2014 the Antivan Crows, Lords of Fortune, Mourn Watch, the Shadow Dragons, Veil Jumpers, and Grey Wardens \u2014 plays a role in their role during the final battle. Over the course of the game, you\u2019re making decisions for them and helping them. And, ultimately, how good your relationship is with each faction determines how strongly (or if) they show up for the final battle.<\/p>\n

This starts all the way back when you decide to save either Minrathous or Treviso<\/a> from the dragon attack. Whoever you don\u2019t help will be in a (slightly) weaker position come the end of the game.<\/p>\n

\n

Can everyone survive in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

All of your preparations are really to make sure everyone survives the final battle. But, sadly, not everyone will. You will lose one member of your party at minimum<\/strong>. And possibly more. We\u2019ll get into it below.<\/p>\n

\n

All endgame choices<\/strong> in Dragon Age: The Veilguard<\/h2>\n

All the choices you make leading up to the end of Dragon Age: The Veilguard<\/em> determine which ending you can get and who survives the final battle(s). Your faction strength and getting your allies to Hero of the Veilguard status can all but guarantee that everyone survives, but you can still make bad calls.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll break down all the choices in detail below, but let\u2019s list them for easy reference:<\/p>\n

Can you convince the Inquisitor to reunite with Solas?<\/h2>\n

As you approach the end of the game, you\u2019ll get a quest called \u201cLegacies and Legends\u201d <\/strong>where you have to meet the Inquisitor at the Cobbled Swan in Dock Town. <\/p>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

Over the course of a long conversation about Solas, the Inquisitor will reveal that they were once in love with Solas and, depending on your choices, might be open to forgiving him.<\/p>\n

\n

Should Davrin or Harding lead the distraction?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Starting the quest \u201cWhen Plans Align\u201d<\/strong> gives you a warning that you\u2019re heading into the end of the game. There\u2019s still a long way to go, but this is where the action really kicks off.<\/p>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

After an intense conversation with the team, you\u2019ll head to Tearstone Island to stop the gods\u2019 ritual. Right away, you\u2019ll have to decide if Davrin or Harding lead the distraction force.<\/p>\n

Whoever you choose will be successful, so that\u2019s not a problem. The issue is that whoever you choose will<\/em> end up sacrificing themselves later<\/strong> on during the fight against Ghilan\u2019nain. There\u2019s no way around this. I\u2019m sorry. (Be warned that Assan sacrifices himself along with Davrin, if that sways your decision.)<\/p>\n

\n

Should Bellara or Neve dismantle the wards?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After the distraction team is successful and rejoins the larger party, you\u2019ll come to a Fade tear and your path forward will be blocked by blood magic wards.<\/p>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

Either Bellara or Neve can dismantle them (successfully), so there\u2019s no wrong choice immediately. However, whoever does the dismantling is going to get grabbed by Elgar\u2019nan and infected with blight (and won\u2019t be available for your party for a while). Again, there\u2019s no way around this.<\/p>\n

Whether or not they can fight their way back from the abduction and infection depends on if you have gotten them to Hero of the Veilguard status. If you haven\u2019t, they\u2019ll succumb to the infection.<\/p>\n

In short, pick whomever is at Hero of the Veilguard status<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Who should do what jobs in \u2018The Last Gambit\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Over the course of \u201cThe Dragon and the Dread Wolf,\u201d you\u2019ll have a round of final conversations with the team (one of several, honestly). At the end, you\u2019ll gather everyone (minus two) together at the kitchen table. This will immediately start \u201cThe Last Gambit\u201d <\/strong>and you\u2019ll have to make some life-and-death decisions.<\/p>\n

In a montage that mixes planning and action, you\u2019ll have to assign your party to various jobs that help in your assault on Minrathous. How well those people do depend on whether or not they\u2019re a Hero of the Veilguard, your relationships with the various factions, and whether or not they\u2019re a good fit for the task. (You don\u2019t have to match the companion to the faction, though.)<\/p>\n

Preparing and choosing poorly can (and will) lead to the deaths of your companions, the leaders of the various factions, or both. But if you get everyone to Hero of the Veilguard status, it\u2019s hard to screw up here.<\/p>\n

And that means you can focus on who you want to have in your party and work backward.<\/p>\n

Who should unravel the wards with the Veil Jumpers?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

Someone magical is your best bet here as it keeps Strife, the head of the Veil Jumpers, alive. Bellara has experience with magical artifacts, Emmrich has his necromancy, and Neve is a powerful mage.<\/p>\n

The strongest choice is Bellara or Neve<\/strong> \u2014 obviously, who you choose here depends on who you chose to dismantle the wards previously. But, if your faction strength is high enough and your companions are Veilguards, Emmrich or Harding <\/strong>work here, too.<\/p>\n

Who should kill the Venatori commander with the Antivan Crows?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

Your next choice is who to send after the Venatori war mage while the Antivan Crows back them up. You\u2019re looking for someone with experience fighting mages (or just, you know, stabbing). Neve is a solid choice, but if you\u2019re looking for an assassin, Lucanis<\/strong> is the easy pick.<\/p>\n

Depending on who\u2019s available and unassigned, Harding or Neve <\/strong>can also pull it off.<\/p>\n

Who should <\/strong>fight the Juggernaut with the Grey Wardens and Mourn Watch?<\/h3>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll have to assign someone to fight alongside the Grey Wardens to stop the building-sized Juggernaut. It\u2019s hard to pick anyone but Taash<\/strong> for this role for obvious reasons, but Davrin or Harding<\/strong> can fill in.<\/p>\n

\n

Can you increase Felassan\u2019s Rune power?<\/h2>\n

\"Dragon<\/p>\n

On your way into the final battle(s), you\u2019ll get a chance to talk to Morrigan. She\u2019ll give you a powerful new rune \u2014 Felassan\u2019s Rune<\/strong> \u2014 the strength of which is determined by how much progress you\u2019ve made in the \u201cHeart of Corruption\u201d <\/strong>side quest.<\/p>\n

\n

Who to assign during \u2018The Dread Wolf Rises\u2019<\/h2>\n

On your way to the Archon\u2019s Palace, you\u2019ll have one last assignment to hand out.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Before you start your climb, all of your allies gather and alert you to a coming attack and you\u2019ll have to pick one of your companions to stay behind and help out. This choice is about protecting others. Either Bellara or Neve \u2014 whoever got abducted earlier \u2014 won\u2019t be available for this role \u2014 but the two of them are bad choices here. (Spoiler: They\u2019ll die.)<\/p>\n

Your faction strength figures in a lot here, as does the Hero of the Veilguard status of your companions. If you\u2019ve got everything maxed out, their chances improve, but you can still lose an ally from this decision. In our experience, Davrin, Harding, Lucanis, or Taash<\/strong> will make it through the fight alive, so you can pick whoever you don\u2019t need for your party during the final battle.<\/p>\n

\n

What to do about Solas<\/strong><\/h2>\n

You do have one last choice in the endgame: what to do about Solas. That decision, though, determines what ending you see. There are three potential outcomes, broadly breaking down along the traditional \u201cgood,\u201d \u201cbad,\u201d and \u201cneutral\u201d paradigm, and which one you can get is dependent on certain pre-requisites.<\/p>\n
