Without a new Mass Effect since 2017\u2019s Andromeda<\/em>, responsibility for N7 Day \u2014 the fake holiday celebrated by developer BioWare every November 7, in reference to the special forces rank held by several of the franchise\u2019s protagonists \u2014 falls to the studio\u2019s fantasy series by way of the latest installment, Dragon Age: The Veilguard<\/em> (via Kotaku<\/a>).<\/p>\n

After applying today\u2019s patch<\/a>, Veilguard<\/em> players can equip their Rook with setting-appropriate cosmetics reminiscent of Commander Shepard\u2019s iconic look from the original Mass Effect trilogy. Two armor customizations and a helmet will be waiting in a chest near the Lighthouse base\u2019s Workshop, provided that the Lace Harding mission \u201cThe Singing Blade\u201d has been completed.<\/p>\n

While not quite as exciting as previous N7 Day reveals, the most recent of which provided teasers about the next Mass Effect game<\/a>, BioWare made sure to tamp down expectations<\/a> earlier this week as development continues on the mystery project.<\/p>\n

\u201cNovember 7 has arrived once again, and as always, we\u2019re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate all things Mass Effect!\u201d a letter posted to the Mass Effect website<\/a> reads. \u201cThis year is a little different, as we just launched\u00a0Dragon Age: The Veilguard<\/em>\u00a0as a studio; so we\u2019re purposefully keeping things lighter as we celebrate the launch of the game. Although we are a little quieter this year, we couldn\u2019t be more excited for what\u2019s to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

No Man\u2019s Sky<\/em> and Destiny 2<\/em> players can also expect the return of previous cross-promotional Mass Effect content like the Normandy expedition and various cosmetics, respectively.<\/p>\n

Dragon Age: The Veilguard<\/em> launched on October 31 to mostly positive reviews. Writing for Polygon, Todd Harper praised the game\u2019s \u201cfriend group simulator<\/a>\u201d vibes while noting the combat was more hit or miss (Polygon\u2019s Susana Polo loves that combat<\/a>, so your mileage may vary).<\/p>\n
