Nintendo\u2019s free-to-play mobile version of Animal Crossing is closing down on Nov. 28<\/a>. Just a few days later, that game will be reborn in a paid, offline version called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete<\/em>, which will cost $9.99 at launch on Dec. 2, Nintendo announced Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That introductory price will run through Jan. 31, 2025. After that, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete<\/em> will cost $19.99.<\/p>\n

Players of the original Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp<\/a><\/em> will be able to transfer their save data and game progress to Pocket Camp Complete<\/em> via their Nintendo Account. Players who want to transfer their Pocket Camp<\/em> save data will need to do so by June 1, 2025. Like the original Pocket Camp<\/em>, the Complete<\/em> version will be available for Android and iOS.<\/p>\n

Nintendo says that the Complete<\/em> version of Pocket Camp<\/em> will include a handful of game and economy changes. Leaf Tickets, an in-game currency that could be used to purchase items and speed up crafting, will be replaced by a new currency called Leaf Tokens. Pocket Camp Complete<\/em> will also introduce Camper Cards, which Nintendo describes as \u201ccustomizable in-game cards that each player can create and trade through a QR Code, and that includes information like your personal favorite animal pal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete<\/em> will also include a new location called Whistle Pass, where players can hang out with friends and fellow campers for in-game activities, including live music performances.<\/p>\n

Nintendo launched Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp<\/em><\/a> for Android and iOS devices in 2017. The mobile spin on the Animal Crossing franchise was initially disappointing<\/a>, but became a hit for Nintendo<\/a> after the launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/em> for Switch. Nintendo\u2019s monetization scheme for the mobile Animal Crossing was controversial; the company had multiple paid subscriptions<\/a> running concurrently, letting players earn fortune cookies \u2014 Pocket Camp<\/em>\u2019s version of loot boxes \u2014 and automating in-game tasks<\/a> with the help of an animal friend.<\/p>\n

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp<\/em> players who spent money on the game don\u2019t appear to receive any sort of discount for its one-time purchase replacement. But having the option to continue playing a version of Pocket Camp<\/em> after its official shutdown is certainly a better option than what\u2019s<\/a> come<\/a> before<\/a>.<\/p>\n
