Tom Holland will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a> with a new standalone Spider-Man film, the actor confirmed Tuesday. The fourth film in Holland\u2019s Spider-Man series will start filming in the summer of 2025, Holland said during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings<\/a><\/em> and co-created the upcoming Wonder Man<\/a><\/em> for Marvel Studios, is taking over for director Jon Watts for Spider-Man 4<\/em>, The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> revealed last month.<\/p>\n

The previous film in the franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em><\/a>, left off with Peter Parker tragically alone. His secret identity as Spider-Man (and all knowledge of Peter Parker\u2019s existence) was wiped from the public consciousness by Dr. Strange\u2019s magic.<\/p>\n

Official details on where the story will go are scant, but Holland said in a recent appearance on the Rich Roll Podcast<\/a> that he\u2019d read a draft of Spider-Man 4<\/em> and was \u201creally, really excited about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a draft, which is excellent,\u201d Holland said when asked about continuing the role of Peter Parker\/Spider-Man. \u201cIt needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like, This is a real movie worthy of the fans\u2019 respect<\/em>. But there\u2019s a few things we need to figure out, before we can get that really going.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next Spider-Man movie may offer a more grounded, back-to-basics take on Marvel\u2019s beloved wall-crawler. According to comments from Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige<\/a> in 2022, Spider-Man is \u201cgoing into the street-level heroes\u201d pocket of the MCU, far away from the intergalactic and reality-blending adventures Holland\u2019s Spider-Man has been known for. As No Way Home<\/em> viewers are well aware<\/a>, Peter\u2019s friends have no memory of him, his sole remaining family member has died, and it\u2019s unclear what his status as an Avenger is.<\/p>\n

Holland made his MCU debut as Peter Parker in 2016\u2019s Captain America: Civil War<\/a><\/em>. In addition to appearing in three standalone Spidey pics, Holland reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War<\/em> and Avengers: Endgame<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Producer Amy Pascal previously said\u00a0that Holland would return to the role for a new series of films. \u201cThis is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel \u2014 [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,\u201d Pascal told\u00a0Fandango<\/a>\u00a0in an interview ahead of No Way Home<\/em>\u2019s release. \u201cWe are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn\u2019t part of \u2026 we\u2019re thinking of this as three films, and now we\u2019re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.\u201d <\/p>\n
