Nintendo shared very few details about the mystery event, except that a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership was necessary to participate. Ahead of the event beginning on Oct. 21, Nintendo published a website for participating users detailing the event \u2014 and it appears to be some some of massively multiplayer online experience.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The content for the Nintendo Online Playtest Program leaked almost immediately. <\/p>\n<p>Game &#8211; &quot;The goal is to work with others to fully develop a massive, expansive planet by utilizing creativity and farmed resources. As you progress across the planet, you&#039;ll discover new lands,\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ilOY5FpYdN\">pic.twitter.com\/ilOY5FpYdN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Stealth (@Stealth40k) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Stealth40k\/status\/1848307962420350982?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 21, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Almost immediately, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1kfClf9A9jQnsHN6v91dZ7RVbUvpB1fGzG0ew0KLy7B8\/preview#heading=h.4qsm8bne311c\">the contents of the website<\/a> leaked online. Nintendo appears to be using DMCA notices in response to some of the leaked information on social media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">\u201cWith the Nintendo Switch Online: Playtest Program, we aim to test the boundaries of mass multiplayer functionality and gameplay on our servers,\u201d Nintendo wrote on the website, according to a user\u2019s screen recording of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The leaks depict Nintendo describing the game as being about working with other players to \u201cdevelop\u201d a planet by farming resources and being creative. \u201cAs you progress across the planet, you\u2019ll discover new lands, enemies, and resources that will become essential to your journey,\u201d Nintendo wrote, according to the leaked materials. The leaks say players will be \u201cbeacons\u201d that emit a \u201chealing light\u201d to develop the land. The beacons are described as basically a claimant over a piece of the planet, where a player is reportedly able to \u201cmove, lift, or edit items\u201d within the highlighted area. Players are only able to edit a space that\u2019s there. \u201cPlaces outside of Beacon Zones are public areas that anyone can work in,\u201d the leaks say. \u201cIn public areas anyone can pick up things, place them, and edit them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Then you can work on an area. Beyond that, there\u2019s also an area called the Dev Core, which is essentially a social hub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Another big part of it seems to be user-generated content; the leaked materials say players can \u201cmake all sorts of different UGC in-game\u201d after taking a test to show they \u201cunderstand the importance of respectful communication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">The game looks a lot like the UGC platforms like <em>Fortnite<\/em> and <em>Roblox<\/em>, where people can create and develop their own games within the larger system.
