Haunted Space blends sci-fi dogfighting, crafting and a horror story about humanity’s future

Haunted Space is a promising sci-fi adventure from an Italian indie team.

Haunted Space was unveiled overnight at the Future Games Show. Haunted Space is a game of many components: it’s mainly a space shooter, but one with a horror narrative about humanity’s future civilization clashing with ancient space aliens.

It’s also a bit of an Everspace, a game where you build spaceships, trade, and scavenge for resources to upgrade your ship. Haunted Space is set in a fictional galaxy where humanity has found a new home after the discovery of Sonic Matter, a unique source of energy.

The harvesting of this new element, predictably, unleashes forgotten horrors unto humankind, and sets off a story about a distant, ancient civilization that preceded humans. Multi-stage boss fights are just one of the ways this is going to manifest.

Space combat can be experienced in first or third-person, and developer Italian Games Factory is working on a feature it’s calling co-pilot, which basically allows players to customise the level of realism they want the flight model to have, from arcade all the way to simulation. Co-pilot is also designed to help players with visual disabilities fly the ship, which is just great to see.

Haunted Space is built on Unreal Engine, and will support ray tracing when it releases on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can wishlist it on Steam today.
