Fallout 76 fans get to unwrap their gifts a little early this year, as the Steel Dawn update has published early. Originally, the Brotherhood of Steel patch was meant to be released on Dec. 1. However, circumstances changed after the update was pushed to Xbox early. Bethesda explained the situation in a post on the official Fallout site, writing:
Earlier today, there was an error that caused players in our Xbox community to download the Steel Dawn Update ahead of schedule, but prevented them from actually playing. We immediately investigated ways to get our Xbox players back in-game as soon as possible, but, through our discussions, the entire BGS team felt confident that Steel Dawn is ready to go.
As a result, instead of rolling back the update and making everyone wait another week, we’ve decided to release the Steel Dawn Update on all platforms today, November 24.
We’re scheduled to begin maintenance for all platforms at 4:00 p.m. ET, and we expect Fallout 76 to be offline for around six hours. When maintenance is over, you’ll be able to get started with the Steel Dawn questline, your first C.A.M.P. Shelter, and everything else this update contains.
The Steel Dawn update includes the first part of a massive quest chain, similar to April’s Wastelanders expansion. The player meets the Brotherhood, gains their trust, and begins to make decisions that will determine what the Brotherhood of Steel ends up becoming in Appalachia: benevolent protectors or militant isolationists.
The Steel Dawn update also has a major addition for players who like to build their CAMPs; players will now have access to instanced shelters, which provide a zone where they can build much more elaborate and detailed bases. These underground shelters can be made to look like a comfortable home, a military outpost, or a secret agent base, which is ideal for the game’s role-play and community.
Steel Dawn is now out on all platforms, and is a free update.
