Destiny 2: Beyond Light Wrathborn Hunts – How to unlock and upgrade the Cryptolith Lure, Mutations and more

Crow has found a new hiding spot in Destiny 2: Beyond Light and he’s got a special questline involving the Cryptolith Lure.

Uldren Sov has returned to Destiny 2 with a new Ghost, Glint, and absolutely no memory of slaying our beloved Cayde-6. In a strange turn of events, he’s now a Guardian-friendly vendor and will give you the Cryptolith Lure, which you’ll need to go on Wrathborn Hunts .

Before you go off on a hunt, though, you’ll need to get your hands on the Lure. To get it, you’ll need to have completed the opening Forsaken and Shadowkeep missions so you can access the Tangled Shore, Dreaming City and the Moon, so make sure you’ve done that first.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light – How to get the Cryptolith Lure

Once you’ve unlocked the required areas, head to the Moon and look for a quest marker titled Trail of the Hunted. Osiris has landed himself in a bit of hot water and unfortunately, his Ghost has perished. Work your way through the quest to find him and Crow, before it updates and asks you to visit Spider in the Tangled Shore.

Spider will spin some yarn about how he found Crow wandering lost in the Reef with no memory before giving you a quest. After that, nip round the corner and have a word with Uldren who’ll eventually give you the Cryptolith Lure.

It’ll come partially charged and you’ll need to complete Strikes, Gambit and Crucible matches to fully charge it. The more kills you get, the faster it charges, so try your best to defeat as many Guardians and other enemies as possible.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light – How to get Cryptolith Lure mods

Alongside the Lure, you’ll unlock Lure Mods. If you have the Premium Season Pass, you’ll already have collected some Recon Data which you can use to increase your Reputation with Crow. The mods work similarly to that of the Chalice from the Menagerie. You can also choose whether to have a mod active that vetoes certain weapon perks or for armour to always roll higher than what you’re wearing.

Regardless of the mod you choose, you’ll get two Powerful Engrams a week, and you can either buy lure Mods from Crow for between 8,000-10,000 Glimmer or complete Nightmare Hunts, Strikes, Crucible and Gambit matches.

The Prey Mod slot lets you choose what type of reward you want from Wrathborn Hunts, including targeted armour pieces, weapons, Recon Data and more Lure Mutations. It also dictates what kind of Wrathborn Hunt you’ll go on. Currently, there are four in-game – two Hive and two Fallen – which you can repeat several times.

There’s also the Weak Mutation slot which can significantly buff armour stats or influence what type of Masterwork you’d like on the weapon you’ll receive:

Armour Trophy Mod: All-Around – Armor obtained from a Wrathborn will roll with higher than average stats.
Armour Trophy Mod: Mobility – Armor obtained from a Wrathborn will roll with higher Mobility stat bias.
Armour Trophy Mod: Resilience – Armor obtained from a Wrathborn will roll with a higher Resilience stat bias.
Armour Trophy Mod: Strength – Armor obtained from a Wrathborn will roll with a higher Strength stat bias.
Trophy Mod: Dormant – When applied, this Mutation has no effect on rewards obtained from Wrathborn hunts.
Trophy Mod: Stability – Weapons obtained from a Wrathborn will include a Stability Masterwork.
Trophy Mod: Handling – Weapons obtained from a Wrathborn will include a Handling Masterwork.
Trophy Mod: Reload or Charge Time – Weapons obtained from a Wrathborn will include a Reload or Charge Time Masterwork.
Trophy Mod: Velocity or Range – Weapons obtained from a Wrathborn will include a Velocity or Range Masterwork.
Trophy Perk Veto Mod 1 – Weapons obtained from a successful Wrathborn hunt will exclude specific perks.
Trophy Perk Veto Mod 2 – Weapons obtained from a successful Wrathborn hunt will exclude specific perks.
Trophy Perk Veto Mod 3 – Weapons obtained from a successful Wrathborn hunt will exclude specific perks.

Last but not least, there’s the Strong Mutation slot, which lets you choose which armour stat you’d like to modify specifically. You can also earn more Recon Data with a Reputation Trophy Mod here.

Trophy Perk Veto Mod 4 – Weapons obtained from a successful Wrathborn hunt will exclude specific perks.
Trophy Perk Veto Mod 5 – Weapons obtained from a successful Wrathborn hunt will exclude specific perks.
Trophy Perk Veto Mod 6 – Weapons obtained from a successful Wrathborn hunt will exclude specific perks.
Trophy Mod: Dormant – When applied, this Mutation has no effect on rewards obtained from Wrathborn hunts.
Trophy Mod: Reputation – Additional recon data can be obtained from a Wrathborn.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light – How to upgrade the Cryptolith Lure

There are various unlock ranks for your Lure between one and 10 which you can get by increasing your Reputation with Crow using Recon Data. The rewards you get from each rank increase the number of Powerful Engrams you’ll receive, how much Recon Data you’ll earn from Wrathborn Hunts and there’s a chance you’ll also receive a Pinnacle Engram Bounty with the higher ranks.

It takes around 20 Recon Data at a time to increase your Reputation, and you can earn 30 from the Season Pass alone. The rest can be found by using the extra Recon Data mod and completing Wrathborn Hunts.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Wrathborn Hunts

You can use the Cryptolith Lure to trigger a Wrathborn Hunt. Once your Lure is charged, you can place it in various areas – the Dreaming City, for example – and you’ll be able to summon specific Wrathborn Targets. Loads of adds will spawn, so take care of those first to collect miasma that will increase your damage before focusing on these challenging enemies.

They’ll eventually try to flee and will drop greenish blood everywhere, so hunt them down and you’ll come across a mission flag that will begin a Hunt activity. This repeats before a bigger and more danerous enemy appears, where you’ll need to kill named enemies to gather more miasma to deal more damage.

You can stand in a pool of miasma and fire at your opponent and once they’re downed, you’ll get your chosen prize from your Cryptolith Lure.
