Can anything be done to stop the PS5 and Xbox Series X scalpers? It’s the Eurogamer next-gen news cast!

Another week, another bucketload of next-gen console news – and so plenty for Eurogamer news editor Tom Phillips, reporter Emma Kent and me to discuss in this week’s news cast.

We kick off by talking about the PS5 being the biggest console launch ever – an impressive feat during a pandemic. We then move on to Digital Foundry’s analysis of some multiplatform games, which are shown to run better on PS5 than Xbox Series X – a surprise given all the talk about Microsoft’s console being the world’s most powerful. Microsoft has issued a statement on this, and it looks like developers are still getting to grips with the Xbox Series X, which reportedly came in quite hot.

Talking of company statements, Amazon promised to “put it right” for customers whose PS5s never turned up. But has Amazon put it right? Not exactly…

Our big topic this week though is the impact of scalpers on the launch of the PS5 in particular. One group has claimed to have nabbed thousands of PS5s to flip for a profit – even advertising this scheme to members who pay a subscription fee. The big question is, can anything be done to stop the scalpers?

So! Please join us in the video below to run through the week that was. And keep your eyes peeled for a cameo from Tom’s cat.
