Bloober Team responds to Silent Hill rumours, doesn’t deny them outright

Silent Hill

Bloober Team has responded to speculation that it’s working on a new game in the Silent Hill series as part of its new relationship with publisher Konami.

Bloober Team fans discovered three projects in development at the studio – known as H2O, Black, and Dum Spiro – have been cleared for funding by the EU. To date, we only know that H20 was Layers of Fear 2.

Bloober CMO Tomasz Gawlikowski has taken part in an interview with IGN in which he clarified the scope of the team’s projects has changed drastically since funding applications were approved.

“Online speculations based on outdated or incomplete information can often lead to strange theories among gamers,” Gawlikowski told IGN via a statement. “We have also applied for two other projects, codenamed respectively Dum Spiro and Black. After numerous iterations of Dum Spiro, we’ve concluded we can’t at the moment deliver it in a form that is appropriately sensitive to the topic and commercially viable at the same time.

“In short, Dum Spiro is no longer in active development at the moment.”

Gawlikowski also told IGN that “the initial idea for Black has also been shelved,” though the developer is “still developing a game under this codename, it’s now a much different project than what you could read on the web in the past few days.”

That sure makes it sound like he’s referring directly to conjecture about the studio teaming up with Konami to work on a Silent Hill game, doesn’t it? The series is never referred to by name, and there was never any formal denial that a game in the series is in the works.

We already know that Bloober Team is working with Konami on an existing horror franchise, and that Konami has outsourced two Silent Hill projects, one of which is in the works at a “prominent Japanese developer”.

We’ve not heard a peep from the series since the cancelled Silent Hills debacle, so here’s hoping Bloober Team – or another developer entirely – can provide an update on the status of the franchise soon.
