An Official Metal Gear Solid Prostethetic Arm Line Is Now Available

There are some incredibly creative ways that amputees can share their love for gaming with prosthetic attachments and the latest allows for pure Metal Gear Solid fandom. Though not the first to adapt the iconic Metal Gear franchise, Komani itself has partnered with Open Bionics, a famed prosthetics company, to make an official replica for those that desire a little additional flair.

Given Venom Snake’s narrative surrounding his arm being lost due to an explosion in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, this pairing is perfect for gamers looking to spread that Snake love.

The company shared a video, seen above, of 29-year-old Daniel Melville sporting the new prosethetic. According to Open Bionics: “29-year-old Daniel Melville, who was born without his right hand and has been wearing a Hero Arm for over 3 years, is the very first recipient of the new Metal Gear Solid design.”

Daniel himself added, “This is unbelievable. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted from a bionic arm. I’m an avid gamer and love Metal Gear Solid so much and to actually have Snake’s arm in real life is just insane.”

Konami’s Takayuki Kubo couldn’t be more excited about the science-driven collaboration, saying “We’re incredibly excited to collaborate with Open Bionics, who are at the cutting edge of robotics. We’re thrilled to see the iconic Metal Gear aesthetic of Venom Snake and his bionic arm burst out of the screen and come to life, in a dynamic fusion of technology and design that is changing the lives of upper limb amputees all over the world.”

The prosethic in question, with or without the Metal Gear flair, is called the Hero Arm and was designed in a way that was both affordable and incredibly advanced for both adults and kids alike. It’s available in a plethora of locations as well, including the US, UK, Ireland, Spain, Franchise, New Zealand, Australia, Portugal, Russia, and the Netherlands.
